An independent medical evaluation (IME) consists of a specialist reviewing medical records and treatment, examining the individual, and preparing a report with an appropriately researched opinion. IMEs can be conducted to determine the cause and extent of an injury where liability is an issue. Permanent impairment and ability to return to work are also determined by an IME.
